Privacy and advertising

We count how often our ads are shown, seen and clicked, as totals by ad, spot and device. We do not use cookies or track individual readers for this.

Whether you are a member can affect how many ads you see. We do not store that with ad data, and ad measurement does not identify you, your session or your device.

Ads are labeled “Advertisement”. Sponsored stories carry a “Sponsored” label that stays on the story for as long as it is sponsored. Ad and sponsor links go to the advertiser’s own website, which has its own privacy practices, and are marked as sponsored links.

Like most sites, we store a small amount of information in your browser so the site works as you expect: to keep you signed in as a member, to count the free stories you have read, and to remember simple display settings. None of it describes you personally. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings; you may then need to sign in again.

If you send us a message, we use your name and email address only to read and answer it. If you join our newsletter or a membership, we use your email address to send what you signed up for. We do not sell your information.
