Chef Niema DiGrazia Honored by La Secretary of State

By: D. D. Reese

Executive Chef Niema DiGrazia from Abby Singer’s Bistro received a formal proclamation this week from Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry, honoring her outstanding achievement on the national stage. Chef DiGrazia gained acclaim after her victory on the Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay on May 29, showcasing her unique blend of West African and Southern flavors. In response, Secretary Landry congratulated DiGrazia for "representing Louisiana with excellence and integrity" and issued a proclamation recognizing her as a true culinary ambassador.

In addition to the secretary’s honors, the Caddo Parish Commission declared June 7 “Chef Niema DiGrazia Day” in celebration of her regional and national success. Meanwhile, the Louisiana Legislature also passed House Resolution No. 266, commending her achievements and highlighting her work through RNL Authentics and her leadership at Abby Singer’s Bistro in downtown Shreveport.

From Sierra Leone to Shreveport

Originally from Sierra Leone, Chef DiGrazia grew her culinary career in Louisiana by blending native West African recipes with soulful Southern cuisine. She launched a successful food truck and later became the executive chef at Abby Singer’s Bistro, located in the historic Robinson Film Center on Texas Street. Her win on Beat Bobby Flay has captured widespread attention, not only within the food industry but also throughout the Shreveport community.

Community Recognition & Local Pride

  • Proclamation by Secretary Landry: Acknowledged Chef DiGrazia’s integrity and excellence on behalf of the state.
  • Caddo Parish Month-long Tribute: June 7 designated as her special day in celebration of her influence and achievements.
  • State Legislative Commendation: House Resolution No. 266 praised her skill, cultural representation, and commitment to mentorship and community building.

What This Means for Shreveport

Chef DiGrazia’s honors reinforce Shreveport’s growing reputation as a vibrant culinary and cultural hub. Her blend of tradition, innovation, and community-driven ethos serves as inspiration for local entrepreneurs and chefs.

Bottom Line:

Shreveport’s own Niema DiGrazia is now recognized statewide, through proclamations, a dedicated day, and legislative commendation, for putting Louisiana’s flavors and spirit in the national spotlight.
